The trick to cartridge filters is to size them right the first time! Here's one time where "bigger is better".  Bigger meaning filter size, not horsepower.  The Hayward® Easy-Clear™ Cartridge Filter System with its 55 square feet of filter area & a 1.0 HP pump system is perfectly sized for pools up to 10,000 gallons (typically a 15, 18, 21 round or 12x24 or 15x24 oval).  Although the filter has the "capacity" to filter much more than that, you don't want to be cleaning the cartridge every other day.  When your filter is properly sized & chemically maintained, normal cleaning should be done about 3 to 5 weeks.
