Q. How do I figure out how big my pool is in gallons?

Q. When should I open my pool?
A. We recommend to our customers that they open it or at least prepare to open it as soon as possible. This gives you time to check the operation of the filter & equipment. That way you're not surprised at the last minute when you WANT to use the pool. Remember, summer comes every year!

Q. I just opened my pool & the water level seems terribly low. Is there a leak?
A. Most likely, NO. If you've been draining water from the top of the cover over the winter without checking the water level, you've probably been draining the pool as well. After time, small holes form in the cover & you naturally draw water up through it while draining. Be sure to add water to the pool for its structural integrity and keep the level normal.

Q. Where should I maintain the water level during the season?
A. The water level should be at least 1/2 way up the face of the skimmer. This will allow as little air as possible to enter the filter system. The skimmer will be able to skim leaves & debris efficiently.

Q. The water level in my pool is too high, should I drain it?
A. Unless the water is cresting over the top of the pool, leave it. However, make sure the level is below the TOP of the skimmer opening in order for it to skim efficiently.

Q. How often do I need to vacuum my pool?
A. Vacuuming should be done as often as you think. Normally, once a week is sufficient. Generally speaking, the more a pool is used the less vacuuming it needs. Many of our customers use a good automatic pool cleaner, like the Kreepy Krauly, to do this work for them. Even so, a good manual vacuum is good once a month. Q. Why do I have to Brush my pool?
A. We can't tell people often enough why they should brush their pool. Brushing gets off all the stuff that you can't see that's beginning to grow. Think of brushing the pool as flossing your teeth. You know the benefits, just do it!

Q. Why do I have to clean under the ladder treads & in the skimmer basket?
A. These are 2 critical areas where biofilms breed. Biofilms are the cause of many pool care problems such as algae growth & chronic cloudy water. Keep those areas clean (even once or twice a year) & you'll have a brilliant pool!

Q. Why is my water cloudy?
A. Glad you asked!  Here's the scoop on cloudy water.

Q.  My pool looks really nasty.  Shouldn't I just drain it, clean it & refill it, starting fresh?
A. NO. NEVER DRAIN your pool.  The liner will shrink, voiding the warranty and could cause damage to your pool.  In gunite, plaster, or even fiberglass pools removal of the water from the pool could result in the pool structure "floating" and causing serious damage to the structure.
